Writer and Video Game Historian

Who?
I write about, make, and research games. To date, I’ve written two books on the history of video games for grownups. Now, I’m writing nonfiction books for kids and teens. They’re more fun. Check the “About” page for the long version of this story.
What?
Ever wondered how to make games? Or what it might be like to be a game designer? Or if that’s even a real job? Those are the kinds of questions I like to answer. They’re also the things I like to write about.
Where?
I live in Chicago, the coin-op game capital of the United States — lucky me! When I’m not writing, I teach history and media studies, read lots of fantasy and science fiction, play video games and pinball, and sew a lot.
